Welcome

Welcome to my family tree website. To view my tree or to browse through all the names in my tree visit the Family Tree section.

My family tree - location
My ancestors were mainly from Dorset and this includes most of the surnames listed. My Great Grandfather William George BROWN moved to Dorset from Somerset and I have some 18th century Wiltshire connections. My 2 x Great Grandfather, James BREWER went to India while serving with the army and married Ann Cecelia GREEN. This has led to a new line of research in British India (Madras presidency).

Major family
I have traced my own surname back to the early eighteenth century. Thomas Major was born in Cattistock, Dorset. I believe his father was William Major, a wheelwright although I have not established this for certain. Thomas married Ann Gundry and had a son, William Major born in 1746. William's son John Jones Major moved to Rampisham and then on to Batcombe (Dorset) where several generations of Majors lived. My branch of the Major family moved to Hilfield Cerne and then finally to Dorchester at the end of the nineteenth century. If you think you may have a connection I would love to hear from you. I am particularly interested in finding out what happened to John Henry Redvers Major (known as Jack) who went to live in Baltimore, USA in the 1920's.

This site is dedicated to the memory of my mother.
